ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The season-opener for the Wisconsin Woodsmen had a little bit of everything
Friday night — including a victory.
The Woodsmen needed to put in a little extra work, but in the end, it proved to be worth it, as
Joshua Kauppinen netted his first goal of the season 4:29 into overtime, lifting Wisconsin to a 4-
3 NA3HL victory over the St. Louis Jr. Blues.
After trading first-period goals — Wisconsin’s coming off the stick of Daniel Svozil — the
Woodsmen grabbed the upper hand heading into the third period, thanks to a tally by Brandon
Slasori 5:03 into the middle frame.
The Jr. Blues sandwiched a pair of goals around Hugh Deinema’s first of the season in the third
period — including the game-tying goal with 1:09 remaining in regulation — to send the game
into overtime, and set up Kauppinen’s game-winning heroics.
