TOMAH, Wis. — Now that’s more like it.
The Wisconsin Woodsmen, searching for their first win since October 3, got back on the
winning track Friday evening, scoring the game’s first three goals and holding off a third-period
Peoria rally en route to a 3-2 NA3HL victory at the Tomah Ice Center — snapping a franchise-
high nine-game losing streak.
The Woodsmen wasted little time getting their offense kicked into high gear, getting a goal by
Ozbej Muzan — his second of the season — just 2:38 into the opening frame. Ty Paulios added
his fifth of the season with 2:45 remaining in the opening frame to give Wisconsin a 2-0
advantage heading into the first intermission.
Brandon Slasor continues the Woodsmen’s offensive dominance in the second frame, getting
the lone goal of the period with 6:28 to play to extend Wisconsin’s lead to 3-0 with 20 minutes
to play.
And the Woodsmen would need all three of those goals, as Peoria got third-period tallies from
Nathan Pleva and Deitrich Miller in the first 10 minutes of the final period to whittle
Wisconsin’s lead to one, 3-2.
That, however, would be as close as the Mustangs would get, as the Woodsmen held on to
record their first win since beating the West Bend Power 6-4 on Oct. 3.
The Woodsmen held a 39-25 advantage in shots on goal. Lleyton Jaschke finished with 23 saves
in goal for the Woodsmen, while Peoria’s Jakub Stary stopped 36 of Wisconsin’s 39 shots on
goal.
The Woodsmen (3-13-1-0) will go for the NA3HL sweep on Saturday, as they return to the
Tomah Ice Center for a 7:15 p.m. rematch against the Mustangs.
