TOMAH, Wis. — For the second day in a row, the Wisconsin Woodsmen found themselves
having to put in a little overtime in their NA3HL game against the St. Louis Jr. Blues.
Unlike Friday, however, when Ty Paulios netted the game-winner late in the extra period of a 2-
1 Woodsmen victory, Saturday’s rematch would not be decided in the extra frame — it would
take a shootout.
The Jr. Blues would come away with the victory — and a split in the teams’ two-game series at
the Tomah Ice Center, outscoring the Woodsmen 2-0 in the shootout for the 5-4 victory.
Wisconsin had the upper hand early, sandwiching first-period goals by Ethan Foiles and Jack
Dahl around a Jack Reuss goal for St. Louis, to give Wisconsin a 2-1 advantage after 20 minutes
of play.
Caden Lindley netted the equalizer for St. Louis less than two minutes into. The middle frame,
but the Woodsmen would answer with back-to-back goals by Parker Holloway and Brandon
Slasor in the final 10 minutes of the frame to take a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.
Wisconsin was unable to light the lamp in the third period, while St. Louis got goals from
Mitchell Nappier and Lonnie Land in a two-minute span early in the third to knot the game at 4-
4 — and send it into OT.
St. Louis held an 8-4 edge in shots on goal in the extra session, but could not get one past
Woodsmen goalie Lleyton Jaschke, leaving the score deadlocked and headed to a shootout.
The Jr. Blues scored on two of their three shootout goals, while the Woodsmen were unable to
convert, putting an end to their three-game winning streak.
Jaschke finished with 34 saves between the pipes for the Woodsmen, while Jr. Blues goalie
Travis Visvadra stopped 36 of Wisconsin’s 40 shots on goal.
The Woodsmen (15-22-2-2) hit the road next weekend, traveling to Peoria, Ill., for a pair of
games against the Peoria Mustangs. The two teams will drop the puck at 7 p.m. Friday, with
Saturday’s rematch slated for a 6 p.m. start.
