ST. LOUIS, Mo. — For the second day in a row, the Wisconsin Woodsmen found themselves in
the midst of a one-goal decision.
Unfortunately, this time around, the Woodsmen came out on the short end of the outcome.
Coming off a thrilling, 4-3 overtime win over the St. Louis Jr. Blues on Friday, the Woodsmen
and Blues found themselves once again working a little OT in the rematch on Saturday.
Neither team would score in the extra period this time around, with the Jr. Blues taking the
shootout 2-1 to claim the 5-4 NA3HL victory.
After a scoreless first period, the Jr. Blues struck first on a goal by Kyle Settles midway through
the middle frame. Wisconsin answered with back-to-back goals by Hugh Deinema and Joshua
Kauppinen — both finding the back of the net for the second straight game — to give the
Woodsmen a one-goal edge heading into the third period.
St. Louis scored twice in the first 10 minutes of period No. 3, before Daniel Svozil netted his
second of the season to knot the game at 3-3 with 7:49 to play in regulation. The Jr. Blues
regained the advantage on Jack Reuss’s goal at 15:09, but Charles Murray tallied his first as a
Woodsmen just 29 seconds later to knot the game at 4-4 and send it to OT.
Svozil opened the shootout with a goal, but Wisconsin’s next two shooters came up empty,
while St. Louis’ Brayden Davis and Lonnie Land both found the back of the net to give the Jr.
Blues the victory.
Lleyton Jaschke finished with 31 saves in goal for the Woodsmen, including all four in the
overtime period.
Wisconsin is back in action on Friday and Saturday, kicking off the home portion of their
schedule with games against Wausau and West Bend at the Tomah Ice Center.
