TOMAH, Wis. — For the second night in a row, getting off to a good start was not the issue for
the Wisconsin Woodsmen.
Hanging on to that early first-period lead was.
The Woodsmen, who scored the game’s first goal against the league-leading West Bend Power,
only to surrender five unanswered goals in a 6-2 loss on Friday, were at it against on Saturday
against the Rochester Grizzlies.
Wisconsin scored the game’s opening goal just 2:20 into the opening period, but by the time
the Woodsmen would score goal No. 2, Rochester had scored three times and never looked
back in dealing the hosts a 5-2 NA3HL setback at the Tomah Ice Center.
Parker Holloway got the Woodsmen off to their quick start with his fourth goal of the season
less than three minutes into the opening period, but Rochester would answer with back-to-back
goals by Tevin Stukel and Baylor Stebbins to take a 2-1 edge into the locker room at the first
intermission.
It was a lead the Grizzlies would never relinquish.
After a scoreless second period, Stukel found the back of the net for a second time to extend
the Rochester advantage to 3-1. Colton Holzer pulled the Woodsmen back to within one with
his first goal of the season — a power-play tally with 8:34 to play — but that would be as close
as Wisconsin would come, as Rochester netted a pair of empty-net tallies in the final 1:29 to
seal the victory.
Lleyton Jaschke suffered the loss in goal for the Woodsmen, despite kicking out 27 Rochester
shots, while Grizzlies’ goalie Cameron Patrick made 31 saves.
The Woodsmen (12-18-2-1) are back in action next weekend with a pair of road games.
Wisconsin heads to the Rochester Rec Center in Rochester, Minn., for a rematch with the
Grizzlies next Friday, before moving on to Wausau, Wis., to square off aginast the Wausau
Cyclones the following evening.
