TOMAH, Wis. — There was good news, and there was bad news in Saturday evening’s rematch
between the Wisconsin Woodsmen and the Minnesota Moose.
The good news … the two teams – who managed just two goals in three periods and an
overtime session in the Moose’s 2-1 shootout win on Friday, combined for three goals in the
first period of Saturday’s rematch.
The bad news … all three goals were scored by the Moose.
And, unlike Friday’s meager one-goal offensive showing, the Moose were just getting warmed
up, scoring three more goals in the second period and two in the third in rolling to an 8-1
NA3HL victory over the Woodsmen Saturday at the Tomah Ice Center.
The Moose, who were limited to a single second-period tally on Friday, got goals from Connor
Zgoda, Rory Kronick and Charlie Marchand to grab a commanding 3-0 lead after the opening 20
minutes on Saturday.
And, After Ty Paulios got the Woodsmen on the board just 44 seconds into the second period,
the Moose would tack on three more unanswered tallies — two by Hoepfl and another by Will
Burnevik three minutes apart late in the frame to give Minnesota a commanding 6-1 edge with
20 minutes to play.
Hunter Rappel and Luca Salak would find the back of the net in the third period to round out
the Moose’s eight-goal outburst.
Lleyton Jaschke and Alex Rivolta both saw time between the pipes for the Woodsmen, with
Jaschke finishing with 22 saves on 26 shots, while Rivolta stopped eight of the 12 shots he
faced. Minnesota’s Gabe Otis, meanwhile, kicked out 16 of the Woodsmen’s 17 shots on goal.
After seven straight home games, the Woodsmen (4-14-1-1) hit the road next weekend,
heading to the Rochester Rec Center in Rochester, Minn., for a pair of NA3HL games against the
Rochester Grizzles. The two teams will square off at 7 p.m. on Friday, with. Saturday’s rematch
also slated for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
