MIDWEEK PREVIEW: WOODSMEN vs. GRIZZLIES, POWER

The Wisconsin Woodsmen are back in action this weekend with a pair of home games against the Rochester Grizzlies and West Bend Power. The Woodsmen and Grizzlies will square off at the Tomah Ice Center at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, with the Woodsmen-Power showdown taking place at 7:15 p.m. the following evening.

WOODSMEN SCOUTING REPORT:

  • FOR THE RECORD: The Woodsmen head into their NA3HL weekend games against the Rochester Grizzlies and West Bend Power sporting a 2-11-1-0 record. … Wisconsin closed out the 2024-25 season with a 24-16-6-3 record, good for fourth place in the NA3HL Central Division standings.
  • LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin could not come away with a victory in its games against the Wausau Cyclones and Rochester Grizzlies last weekend. The Woodsmen dropped a 4-0 road decision to the Cyclones on Friday, before falling to the Grizzlies 6-4 at home the following evening.
  • HOME COOKING: Starting with last Saturday’s game against the Rochester Grizzlies, the Woodsmen are in the midst of playing seven straight games on their home ice. Wisconsin does not hit the road again until a Nov. 21 matchup at the Rochester Grizzlies. … Wisconsin has collected both of its wins this season on its home ice, going 2-5-0-0 in seven home contests, while dropping all seven of its road contests this year. … The Woodsmen finished 11-8-3-3 at the Tomah Ice Center a year ago, while going 11-8-3-3 on the road.
  • WHITE-KNUCKLE RIDE: With their 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Jr. Blues on Oct. 18, the Woodsmen have now played three games this season decided by one goal (all losses) and have now played 23 games over the last two seasons decided by one goal — including 12 that went into overtime and three decided in a shootout.
  • COMING UP EMPTY: The Woodsmen’s 4-0 loss to the Wausau Cyclones on Oct. 24 marked the first time this season they were held without a goal. The last time Wisconsin, which has scored 42 goals in 14 games, had been shut out came in a 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Moose on Dec. 6, 2025.
  • LIGHTING THE LAMP: Maxim Lazo heads into the weekend boasting a team-leading nine goals. Nolan Mix is sitting second with six goals, two more than Ty Paulios and Ethan Foiles, while Brodie Mich and Tyler Osborne have each lit the lamp three times. 
  • SPREADING THE WEALTH:The Woodsmen — whose seven combined goals in its season-opening split against the Rochester Grizzlies on Sept. 12-13 came from seven different players — have already had 16 players light the lamp this season.
  • FRANCHISE BEST: Lazo’s four goals in Wisconsin’s 6-4 win over the West Bend Power on Oct. 3 matched his single-game career high, and equaled the franchise single-game record. … Lazo has now scored four goals in a game twice, having also achieved the feat against the Mason City Toros last season. … Nolan Mix originally had set the program record, scoring four goals against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 26, 2024.
  • TOSSING THE HAT: The Woodsmen have now had a player record three or more goals in a game six times over the last two seasons. Lazo owned three- and four-goal games last season, while Deinema, Bowser, and Brandon Laso had Wisconsin’s other three-goal games.
  • TURNING UP THE HEAT: The Woodsmen have scored a season-high six goals in three times this season, and have netted six or more goals in a game 13 times over the last two seasons. … Wisconsin erupted for 18 goals in their two-game sweep of the Peoria Mustangs on Oct. 18-19, 2024. The eight goals scored in their 8-1 win on Oct. 18 were the most Wisconsin had scored all season a year ago, only to be two-upped with the Woodsmen’s 10-goal eruption in their 10-7 win the following evening. … The Woodsmen’s 10 goals against Peoria on Oct. 19, 2024 were the most since netting a franchise-record 14 against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 26, 2024..
  • LENDING A HELPING HAND: Lazo picked up his team-leading ninth and 10th assists against the Rochester Grizzlies last Saturday. His 10 helpers are two more than Paulios. Mix, Mich, Cole Schreiber, and Brandon Slasor are all tied for third with five assists,, while Osborne, Josh Kauppinen, Easton Armstrong, Patrick Bowser, Alexander Elsner, and James Pautsch have all contributed three assists. …  Mix picked up four assists in Wisconsin’s 8-2 win over St. Louis on Nov. 2, 2024, one shy of the single-game franchise record of five, set by Hunter Nelson against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 26, 2024.
  • POINT PRODUCERS: Wisconsin boasts three players who have already reached double figures in points, led by Lazo (9 G, 10 A) with 19. Paulios (4 G, 8 A, 12 Pts) and Mix (6 G, 5 A, 11 Pts) have also eclipsed the 10-point mark. Mich (3 G, 5 A, 8 Pts) is two points shy of joining the 10-point club, followed by Schreiber (2 G, 5 A, 7 Pts), Osborne (3 G, 3 A, 6 Pts) and Slasor (1 G, 5 A, 6 Pts). … Hugh Deinema closed out the 2024-25 season as the team-leader with a franchise record 62 points (27 G, 35 A).
  • BETWEEN THE PIPES: Lleyton Jaschke has appeared in 11 of the Woodsmen’s 14 games in goal, compiling a 4.49 goals-against-average and an .887 save percentage. … Jaschke has stopped 408 of the 454 shots he’s faced. … Logan Blahnik has played in four games, boating a 5.66 GAA and .833 save %. … Aidan Vanderweele made his first career start as a Woodsmen against the Wausau Cyclones on Sept. 20, stopping 46 of the Cyclones’ 53 shots. … Jaschke closed out the 2024-25 season recording 511 saves in 21 appearances, second to Steven Kelley’s team-leading 738 saves in 25 appearances.
  • STREAK-SNAPPER: With their 5-2 loss to the Rochester Grizzlies on Nov. 8, 2024, the Woodsmen had their franchise-record six-game winning streak snapped.
  • FRANCHISE FIRST: After going 0-9-0-1 in its 10 meetings against the Wausau Cyclones during the 2023-2024 season, the Woodsmen picked up their first-ever win against the Cyclones with a 3-2 victory on Sept. 20, 2024, and added win No. 2 with a 6-3 victory on Dec. 21, 2024.

  • FOR THE RECORD: The Grizzlies enter the weekend boasting a 6-5-0-0 record, good for 12 points a tie for third place in the NA3HL Central Division standings 
  • LAST TIME OUT: Rochester split its two league games last weekend, falling at home to league-leading West Bend Power 4-1 last Friday, before bouncing back with a 6-4 road win over the Wisconsin Woodsmen the following evening.
  • HOME STRETCH: The Grizzlies are in the midst of back-to-back road games against the Wisconsin Woodsmen, having just traveled to the Tomah Ice Center last Saturday. … Rochester has won three of its six home games this season, while going 3-2-0-0 in its five games away from the Rochester Rec Center.
  • STREAKING: With their 6-4 win over the Wisconsin Woodsmen last Saturday, the Grizzlies snapped their four-game losing streak — with three of the four losses coming against the West Bend Power. Prior to last Saturday’s victory over the Woodsmen, the Grizzlies had not won since beating the Peoria Mustangs 5-1 on Oct. 11.
  • LIGHTING THE LAMP: Mason Decker heads into the weekend leading the team in goals with 14 — including a hat trick in last Saturday’s win over the Wisconsin Woodsmen. Brett Ludvigsen is second with six goals, followed by Trenton Fore and Ole Fevold with five, and Andrew Bastian and Baylor Stebbins with four each. Briggs Knott has found the back of the net three times, while Konnor Goclan and Cooper Johnson own two goals each.
  • LENDING A HELPING HAND: Bastian and Fevold have already reached double figures with 12 assists each, while Ludvigsen is one helper shy of joining the 10-assist club. Goclan has chipped in seven helpers, followed by Stebbins and Johnson with six, and Decker and Fore with five.
  • POINT PRODUCERS: With his 14 goals and 5 assists, Decker is the team’s points leader with 19. He is one of six Grizzlies with 10+ points through 11 games, being joined by Fevold (5 G, 12 A, 17 Pts), Bastian (4 G, 12 A, 16 Pts), Ludvigsen (6 G, 9 A, 15 Pts), Fore (5 G, 5 A, 10 Pts), and Stebbins (4 G, 6 A, 10 Pts). Goclan (2 G, 7 A) is just one point shy of reaching double figures.
  • BETWEEN THE PIPES: Rochester has used four different goalies through the season’s first 11 games, led by Kyle Lappi, who has amassed a 2.20 goals-against-average and .889 save percentage in five games (299 minutes). Callum Keating owns a 3.07 GAA and .867 save % in two games (117 minutes), while Cameron Patrick sports a 2.30 GAA and .880 save % in two appearances (78 minutes) and Tate Metcalf has put together a 5.31 GAA and .797 save % in three games (158 minutes).  Lappi owns a team-high 99 saves, followed by Metcalf with 69 and Keating with 45.

WEST BEND SCOUTING REPORT:

  • FOR THE RECORD: The Power head into the weekend sporting an 11-2-0-1 record and are currently sitting atop the Central Division standings with 23 points, one point in front of second place St. Louis Jr. Blues
  • LAST TIME OUT: West Bend scored four goals in each of its two games last weekend — both victories. The Power cruised to a 4-1 road win over the Rochester Grizzlies last Friday, before adding a 4-0 home victory over the Wausau Cyclones the following evening.
  • HOME COOKING: Following Saturday’s road game at the Wisconsin Woodsmen, the Power will play eight straight games on their home ice. West Bend will not play another road game until returning the Tomah Ice Center for a Dec. 5 matchup against the Wisconsin Woodsmen. … West Bend is unbeaten (4-0-0-0) in its four home games, while sporting a 7-2-0-1 record on the road this season.
  • STREAKING: The Power head into their matchup against the Wisconsin Woodsmen Saturday riding a five-game winning streak. West Bend has not lost since dropping a 4-3 decision to the Mason City Toros on Oct. 11.
  • LIGHTING THE LAMP: Jace Fitzgerald has been a scoring machine for the Power this season, netting a team-high 12 goals in the team’s first 14 games. Brody Josselyn and Elis Holan are tied for second with five goals each, followed by Andrew Sparacino, Cole Craft, Austin Westergaard, and Wyatt Emmett with four. … West Bend has gotten scoring from 20 different players through 14 games. 
  • LENDING A HELPING HAND: West Bend boasts three players who have reached double figures in assists this season, led by Danny Jurcich’s team-best 16 helpers. Sparacino and Fitzgerald had also put up 10+ assists, sitting second and third with 13 and 11 assists, respectively. Quinn O’Connor is one assist shy of joining the double-figure brigade, with Blake Kohen needing to assists to reach double figures.
  • POINT PRODUCERS: Thanks to his team-leading 12 goals and 11 assists, Fitzgerald sits atop the team’s points race with 23. He is one of five Power players with 10+ points, being joined by Sparacino (4 G, 13 A, 17 Pts), Jurcich (0 G, 16 A, 16 Pts), O’Connor (2 G, 9 A, 11 Pts), and Kohnen (2 G, 8 A, 10 Pts). Jackson Hoem (3 G, 6 A) and Adam Sexton (2 G, 7 A) are both one point shy of reaching double figures.
  • BETWEEN THE PIPES: Peter Burke and Ben Glaesman have shared the goaltending duties this season. Burke has posted a 2.01 goals-against-average and .937 save percentage in five games (298 minutes), while Ben Glaesman owns a 2.36 GAA and .903 save % in six appearances (356 minutes). … Burke leads the team with 159 saves, while Glaesman is close behind with 145 stops.
