TOMAH, Wis. — Is becoming almost expected that when the Wisconsin Woodsmen take the
ice, the end result is going to be nothing short of a nail biter.
The Woodsmen — facing the Granite City Lumberjacks for the first time in program history
— found themselves embroiled in yet another one-goal nail biter when the two teams squared
off Friday night at the Tomah Ice Center.
Unfortunately, this time around, it would be the Lumberjacks who would come away with the
one-goal victory — getting the game-winner off the stick of Thomas Gerumi 4:15 into OT in
dealing the Woodsmen their first non-shootout loss of the season, a 6-5 NA3HL setback.
Wisconsin — which has had four of its first five games decided by one goal — jumped out to a
3-2 lead after the opening 20 minutes, getting first-period goals from Hugh Deinema, Colton
Holzer, and Tyler Osborne.
Granite City turned the tables on the Woodsmen in the second frame, scoring three second-
period goals, while the Woodsmen could only muster a Nolan Mix tally, giving the Lumberjacks
a 5-4 lead heading into the game’s final 20 minutes.
Tristan May-Robinson pulled Wisconsin even just 1:31 into the final stanza, and Lleyton Jaschke
stopped all 11 third-period Lumberjack shots to send the game into overtime.
