AFFTON, Mo. — After combining for nine goals on Friday night — the Wisconsin Woodsmen
and St. Louis Jr. Blues went on the defensive in Saturday’s rematch — going nearly 65 minutes
and combining for a grand total of one goal.
Fortunately, it was the Woodsmen who would account for that single tally, as Andrei Khomenko
scored his first goal as a Woodsmen with just two seconds remaining in overtime, lifting
Wisconsin to a 1-0 victory and a split in their two-game NA3HL weekend series.
The Woodsmen held the upper hand in shots on goal, owning a 35-28 advantage — including
outshooting the host Jr. Blues 18-5 in the middle frame — but they could not find a way to get
one past St. Louis goalie Gavin Arnold.
Until late — very late — in the overtime period, when Khomenko, off an assist from Parker
Holloway, found the back of the net with two seconds to play in the extra session to give the
Woodsmen their fourth win of the young season.
Nicklas Timm did his part between the pipes, posting his second shutout in as many starts,
kicking out all 28 Jr. Blues shots.
The Woodsmen (4-1-1-0 overall) are back in action next weekend, traveling to the Rochester
Rec Center in Rochester, Minn., for a 7 p.m. matchup against the Rochester Grizzlies on Friday,
before returning home to the Tomah Ice Center for a 7:15 p.m. showdown against the Wausau
Cyclones the following evening.
