TOMAH, Wis. — if the Wisconsin Woodsmen learned one thing Saturday evening, it’s that
playing the St. Louis Jr. Blues is a marathon, not a sprint.
The Woodsmen sprinted out to a 2-0 lead after the game’s opening 20 minutes, only to have
the Jr. Blues methodically chip away — scoring five of the next seven goals, including the game-
winner with 5:53 remaining in regulation — as St. Louis dealt Wisconsin a 5-4 NA3HL setback at
the Tomah Ice Center.
It was the Brodie Mich show in the opening period, as the Woodsmen sharpshooter scored his
fourth and fifth goals of the season three minutes apart late in the frame to give Wisconsin a
two-goal edge at the first intermission.
The momentum quickly shifted, however, as St. Louis got goals from Jack Reuss, Jace Jordan,
and Lonnie Lan in the middle period — the latter two coming on the power play — to give the
Jr. Blues a 3-2 edge with 20 minutes to play.
Ethan Foiles got the Woodsmen even three minutes into the third period with a shorthanded
tally, only to have Jordan net his second of the game 37 seconds later to put the Jr. Blues back
in front, 4-3. Nolan Mix — who assisted on both of Mich’s first-period tallies — scored for the
second game in a row to knot the game at 4-4 with 7:45 remaining in regulation, but again the
Jr. Blues would answer, getting the game-winner off the stick of Chase Kozma two minutes
later.
Wisconsin boasted a 33-29 edge in shots on goal, with Logan Blahnik recording 24 saves
between the pipes for the Woodsmen, while Travis Visvadra finished with 29 saves.
The Woodsmen (2-9-1-0) return to action next weekend, traveling to Wausau, Wis., for a 7:10
NA3HL showdown against the Wausau Cyclones on Friday, before returning home to the Tomah
Ice Center to host the Rochester Grizzlies in a 7:15 p.m. matchup the following evening.
