TOMAH, Wis. — The Wisconsin Woodsmen could not have scripted a better “homecoming”
that the one that unfolded Friday evening at the Tomah Ice Center.
The Woodsmen gave their home fans plenty to cheer about in their home opener against the
St. Louis Jr. Blues, scoring solo goals in each of the first two period — and getting a shutout
effort from Nicklas Timm in his Wisconsin debut — in a 2-0 victory.
Wisconsin, which opened the season with a split on the road against the Peoria Mustangs, got
all the offense it would need early in the first period, as Jackson Haupt scored his team-leading
third goal of the season.
The Woodsmen would cling to that one-goal advantage until late in the middle frame, when
Haupt found the back of the net for a second time to make it a 2-0 Wisconsin edge heading into
the second intermission.
And two goals would be more than enough, thanks in part to the play of Timm, who stopped all
11 shots he faced. Andrei Khomenko and Cameron Hovden also did their part, each collecting a
pair of assists.
The Woodsmen (2-0-1-0 overall) will go for the sweep against the Jr. Blues on Saturday, as the
two teams return to the Tomah Ice Center for the 7:15 p.m. rematch.
