TOMAH, Wis. — The Wisconsin Woodsmen’s franchise-record six-game winning streak came to
a screeching halt Friday evening, as the Rochester Grizzlies erupted for three third-period goals
to escape the Tomah Ice Center with a 5-2 NA3HL victory.
Wisconsin, which had swept the Grizzlies in their first two meetings this season — posting wins
of 5-3 and 5-1 on Oct. 25-26 — rallied from a 1-0 first-period deficit and headed into the game’s
final 20 minutes deadlocked at 2-2.
But the third period belonged to the Grizzlies.
Rochester scored the only goal of the first period, getting a Ben Parent tally at 11:45 of the
opening frame. Wisconsin answered with back-to-back goals from Pierson Zittel and Maxim
Lazo ain the first 10 minutes of the middle period to snag a 2-1 advantage.
The Grizzlies’ Dre Berndt netted his first of the season to knot the game at 2-2, and Rochester
added goals by Josh Wolf, Tommy Woods, and Noah Gillette in the third period to ice their first-
ever win over the Woodsmen.
Steven Kelley was busy between the pipes for the Woodsmen, kicking out 29 of Rochester’s 34
shots on goal, while Grizzlies’ goalie Gabe Otis finished with 24 saves.
The Woodsmen will get another crack at the Grizzlies on Saturday, as the two teams return to
the Tomah Ice Center for a 7:15 p.m. NA3HL rematch.
