TOMAH, Wis. — The Wisconsin Woodsmen completed a perfect 2-0 weekend Saturday evening
— and for the first time this season, then end result wasn’t a one-goal nail biter.
Although, there certainly was plenty of nail-biting for the home crowd through the game’s
opening two periods.
Wisconsin erupted for three third-period goals, breaking open a 2-2 game and leading the
Woodsmen to a 5-3 NA3HL victory over West Bend Power at the Tomah Ice Center.
The Woodsmen, coming off a 3-2 win over Wausau on Friday — their first win over the
Cyclones in franchise history — jumped out to a 2-1 lead on Saturday, getting goals by Maxim
Lazo and Michael Anderson in the final 3:24 of the frame.
West Bend’s Lucca Weinkauf netted a late second-period goal to pull the Power even heading
into the third period — a period in which the Woodsmen turned up the offensive heat.
Joshua Kauppinen extended his goal-scoring streak to four with a goal just 1:15 into the final
stanza, and, after West Bend’s Jackson Hoem knotted the game back up at 3-3 five minutes
later, Viktor Budik scored back-to-back goals over the game’s final 11 minutes to seal the
Wisconsin victory.
Otto Reinhart, making his first appearance between the pipes for the Woodsmen, finished with
26 saves, while West Bend goalie Ben Glaesman kicked out 20 Wisconsin shots.
The Woodsmen are back in action next weekend, when they play host to the Granite City
Lumberjacks in a pair of NA3HL games at the Tomah Ice Center. The two teams will square off
at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, before concluding the two-game set with another 7:15 p.m. tilt the
following evening.
