ROCHESTER, Minn. — The first two times the Wisconsin Woodsen and Rochester Grizzlies
squared off, the end result one a one-goal nailbiter — the Grizzlies winning the first meeting 3-
2, while the Woodsmen took the second 4-3.
So it should come as no surprise that the teams’ third meeting would most likely follow the
same script, right?
Not quite.
Wisconsin got a pair of goals from Parker Holloway and netted two empty-net goals late in the
third period to secure a 5-3 NA3HL victory over the Grizzlies in a battle of Central Division
leaders at the Rochester Rec Center.
After a scoreless first period, in which the Grizzlies held a 10-7 edge in shots on goal, Holloway
got the Woodsmen’s offense rolling, scoring two goals in the first 7:30 of the middle frame
— sandwiching a power-play goal 48 seconds in, and a short-handed tally seven minutes later
around a Jace Jordan goal for the Grizzlies — to give Wisconsin a 2-1 edge after 40 minutes of
play.
Myles Bible netted his third of the season early in the third period to extend the Woodsmen
lead to 3-1. Tai Kontreci pulled Rochester within one with 10:01 to play in regulation, but Ozbej
Muzan and Jackson Haupt scored back-to-back empty-netters in a 33-second span to virtually
ice the win for the Woodsmen. James Korpi would score Rochester’s second goal of the period
with 26 seconds to play, but it was too little, too late.
Nicklas Timm did his part between the pipes for the Woodsmen, kicking out 30 of the 33 shots
he faced, while Grizzlies’ goalie Jared Lang finished with 40 saves.
Wisconsin (8-3-1-0 overall) returns home to the Tomah Ice Center on Sunday, playing host to
the other Central Division leader, the West Bend Power, in a 2 p.m. matiness.
