WAUSAU, Wis. — The Wisconsin Woodsmen entered Saturday’s night’s game against the
Wausau Cyclones hoping the time was a charm.
Unfortunately, the third time ended in the same way the last two did, with a Woodsmen
setback.
Wisconsin, which dropped 5-2 and 9-2 decisions in their last two games — both against the
Cyclones — gave up back-to-back goals, late in the second period and early in the second in
picking up a third straight win over the Woodsmen with a 3-2 NA3HL victory at Marathon Park.
The Cyclones jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first period, sandwiching goals by Jackson
Maddock and Jackson Schroeder around a tally by the Woodsmen’s Nolan Mix, to take a one-
gaol edge into the first-period intermission.
Brady Knutsen pushed the Wausau lead to two, 3-1, with his 15th goal of the year with 1:57 to
play in the second period, only to have Mix answer with his 14th of the season a minute later to
make it 3-2 with one period to go in regulation.
Neither team, however, would find the back of the net in the game’s final 20 minutes, sending
Wisconsin to its third straight loss against the Cyclones.
Brodie Mich, Josh Kauppinen each picked up a pair of assists to account for all four of the
Woodsmen’s helpers, while Alex Rivolta was buys between the pipes for the Woodsmen,
kicking out 35 of Wausau’s 38 shots on goal.
Wisconsin (12-22-2-1) is back in action next weekend, returning home to the Tomah Ice Center
for a pair of NA3HL games against the Peoria Mustangs. The two teams will square off at 7:15
p.m. on Friday, with Saturday’s rematch also slated for 7:15 p.m.
