The Wisconsin Woodsmen are back in action this weekend, as the Woodsmen square off against the Wausau Cyclones and Rochester Grizzlies. Wisconsin heads to Marathon Park in Wausau, Wis., for a 7:10 p.m. matchup against the Cyclones on Friday, before returning home to the Tomah Ice Center for a 7:15 p.m. showdown vs. the Grizzlies the following day.

WOODSMEN SCOUTING REPORT:

  • FOR THE RECORD: The Woodsmen head into their NA3HL weekend games against the Wausau Cyclones and Rochester Grizzlies sporting a 2-9-1-0 record. … Wisconsin closed out the 2024-25 season with a 24-16-6-3 record, good for fourth place in the NA3HL Central Division standings.
  • LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin came up empty in its two home games against the league-leading St. Louis Jr. Blues, falling 7-2 last Friday, before dropping a 5-4 decision the following evening.
  • HOME COOKING: Wisconsin has collected both of its wins this season on its home ice, going 2-4-0-0 in four home contests, while dropping all six of its road contests this year. … The Woodsmen finished 11-8-3-3 at the Tomah Ice Center a year ago, while going 11-8-3-3 on the road.
  • WHITE-KNUCKLE RIDE: With their 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Jr. Blues on Oct. 18, the Woodsmen have now played three games this season decided by one goal (all losses) and have now played 23 games over the last two seasons decided by one goal — including 12 that went into overtime and three decided in a shootout.
  • LIGHTING THE LAMP: Maxim Lazo heads into the weekend boasting a team-leading eight goals. Nolan Mix — who had a goal in each game against the Jr. Blues last weekend — is sitting second with six goals, two more than Brodie Mich, while Tyler Osborne and Ethan Foiles are tied for fourth on the team with three goals each.
  • SPREADING THE WEALTH:The Woodsmen — whose seven combined goals in its season-opening split against the Rochester Grizzlies on Sept. 12-13 came from seven different players — have already had 15 players light the lamp this season.
  • FRANCHISE BEST: Lazo’s four goals in Wisconsin’s 6-4 win over the West Bend Power on Oct. 3 matched his single-game career high, and equaled the franchise single-game record. … Lazo has now scored four goals in a game twice, having also achieved the feat against the Mason City Toros last season. … Nolan Mix originally had set the program record, scoring four goals against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 26, 2024.
  • TOSSING THE HAT: The Woodsmen have now had a player record three or more goals in a game six times over the last two seasons. Lazo owned three- and four-goal games last season, while Deinema, Bowser, and Brandon Laso had Wisconsin’s other three-goal games.
  • TURNING UP THE HEAT: The Woodsmen have scored a season-high six goals in three of their 12 games this season, and have netted six or more goals in a game 13 times over the last two seasons. … Wisconsin erupted for 18 goals in their two-game sweep of the Peoria Mustangs on Oct. 18-19, 2024. The eight goals scored in their 8-1 win on Oct. 18 were the most Wisconsin had scored all season a year ago, only to be two-upped with the Woodsmen’s 10-goal eruption in their 10-7 win the following evening. … The Woodsmen’s 10 goals against Peoria on Oct. 19, 2024 were the most since netting a franchise-record 14 against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 26, 2024..
  • LENDING A HELPING HAND: Lazo and Ty Paulios share the team lead with eight assists each, three more than Mix, Mich, and Brandon Slasor. Osborne, Cole Schreiber, Josh Kaupinen, Easton Armstrong, and Alexander Elsner have all collected three helpers this season…. Mix picked up four assists in Wisconsin’s 8-2 win over St. Louis on Nov. 2, 2024, one shy of the single-game franchise record of five, set by Hunter Nelson against the Minnesota Loons on Jan. 26, 2024.
  • POINT PRODUCERS: Wisconsin boasts three players who have already reached double figures in points, led by Lazo (8 G, 8 A) with 16. Mix (6 G, 5 A, 11 Pts) and Paulios (2 G, 8 A, 10 Pts) have also eclipsed the 10-point mark. Mich (4 G, 5 A, 9 Pts) is one point shy of joining the 10-point club, followed by Osborne (3 G, 3 A, 6 Pts) and Slasor (1 G, 5 A, 6 Pts). … Hugh Deinema closed out the 2024-25 season as the team-leader with a franchise record 62 points (27 G, 35 A).
  • BETWEEN THE PIPES: Lleyton Jaschke has appeared in nine of the Woodsmen’s 12 games in goal, compiling a 4.37 goals-against-average and an .898 save percentage. … Jaschke has stopped 352 of the 388 shots he’s faced. … Logan Blahnik has played in three games, boating a 5.66 GAA and .833 save %. … Aidan Vanderweele made his first career start as a Woodsmen against the Wausau Cyclones on Sept. 20, stopping 46 of the Cyclones’ 53 shots. … Jaschke closed out the 2024-25 season recording 511 saves in 21 appearances, second to Steven Kelley’s team-leading 738 saves in 25 appearances.
  • STREAK-SNAPPER: The Woodsmen’s 6-4 win over the West Bend Power on Oct. 3 snapped their franchise record-tying five-game losing streak and put an end to a seven-game losing streak against the Power. 
  • STREAK-SNAPPER II: With their 5-2 loss to the Rochester Grizzlies on Nov. 8, 2024, the Woodsmen had their franchise-record six-game winning streak snapped.
  • FRANCHISE FIRST: After going 0-9-0-1 in its 10 meetings against the Wausau Cyclones during the 2023-2024 season, the Woodsmen picked up their first-ever win against the Cyclones with a 3-2 victory on Sept. 20, 2024, and added win No. 2 with a 6-3 victory on Dec. 21, 2024.

  • FOR THE RECORD: The Cyclones enter the weekend sporting a 5-3-0-0 record, good for 10 points and they are sitting tied for third with the Rochester Grizzlies in the NA3HL Central Division standings
  • LAST TIME OUT: Wausau had little trouble sweeping the Peoria Mustangs last weekend, cruising to 6-2 and 8-1 victories.
  • HOME COOKING: The Cyclones’ wins over the Peoria Mustangs last weekend were the first home victories of the season. Wausau is 2-2-0-0 at home, while going 3-1-0-0 away from Marathon Park.
  • STREAKING: With their sweep of the Peoria Mustangs last weekend, the Cyclones head into the weekend riding a three-game winning streak.
  • LIGHTING THE LAMP: Brady Knutsen leads the Cyclones with seven goals, two in front of Jackson Schroeder. Elji Hofmann, Elijah Von, and Brandon Piwko have each lit the lamp four times, followed by Lucas Mankoff with three goals, and Maksim Salienko, Jackson Maddock, Mario Savino with two each. … Wausau has had 12 different players score this season.
  • LENDING A HELPING HAND: Schroeder heads into the weekend owning a team-best eight assists, with Hofmann and Salienko close behind with six helpers each. Von, Maddock, Savino, and Joel Anderson have all chipped in four helpers, followed by Knutsen and Tucker Gretebeck with three apiece.
  • POINT PRODUCERS: With his five goals and eight assists, Schroeder sits atop the team’s points race with 13. He is one of three Cyclones who have recorded 10+ points through eight games, being joined by Hofmann (4 G, 6 A) and Knutsen (7 G, 3 A) with 10 points each. Salienko (2 G, 6 A) and Von (4 G, 4 A) are both just two points shy of joining the double-figure club, with Maddock (2 G, 4 A) and Savino (2 G, 4 A) each owning six points.
  • BETWEEN THE PIPES: The Cyclones have used a trio of goalies through eight games. Brody Kunst owns a 0.57 goals-against-average and .979 save percentage in three appearances (105 minutes), while Brady Faille sports a 2.42 GAA and .906 save % in four games (198 minutes) and Tanner Bonjernoor boasts a 5.86 GAA and .761 save % in four games (174 minutes). … Faille owns a team-leading 85 saves, followed by Bonjernoor with 71 and Kunst with 47.

ROCHESTER SCOUTING REPORT:

  • FOR THE RECORD: The Grizzlies enter the weekend boasting a 5-4-0-0 record, good for 10 points a tie for third place in the NA3HL Central Division standings 
  • LAST TIME OUT: Rochester dropped both of its games against the West Bend Power last weekend, falling 7-6 last Friday, before suffering a 3-1 setback the following evening
  • HOME STRETCH: Friday’s rematch with the West Bend Power is the third straight home game for the Grizzlies, who will then play back-to-back road games against the Wisconsin Woodsmen on Friday and against on Oct. 31. … Rochester has won three of its five home games this season, while going 2-2-0-0 in its four games away from the Rochester Rec Center.
  • STREAKING: With their two losses to the West Bend Power last weekend, the Grizzlies saw their losing streak climb to three straight. Rochester has not won since beating the Peoria Mustangs 5-1 on Oct. 11.
  • LIGHTING THE LAMP: Mason Decker heads into the weekend leading the team in goals with 11. Brett Ludvigsen is second with six goals, followed by Trenton Fore with five, and Andrew Bastian and Ole Fevold with four each. Baylor Stebbins has found the back of the net three times, while Konnor Goclan, Cooper Johnson, and Briggs Knott own two goals each.
  • LENDING A HELPING HAND: Bastian and Fevold have already reached double figures with 10 assists each, while Goclan is sitting third with seven helpers. Ludvigsen and Stebbins have each dished out six assists, followed by Decker and Johnson with four each.
  • POINT PRODUCERS: With his 11 goals and 5 assists, Decker is the team’s points leader with 16. He is one of four Grizzlies with 10+ points through nine games, being joined by Bastian (4 G, 10 A, 14 Pts), Fevold (4 G, 10 A, 14 Pts), and Ludvigsen (6 G, 6 A, 12 Pts). Fore (5 G, 4 A, 9 Pts), Goclan (2 G, 7 A, 9 Pts), and Stebbins (3 G, 6 A, 9 Pts) are all point shy of joining the double-figure brigade,
  • BETWEEN THE PIPES: Rochester has used three different goalies through the season’s first nine games, led by Kyle Lappi, who has amassed a 2.20 goals-against-average and .889 save percentage in five games (299 minutes). Cameron Patrick sports a 2.30 GAA and .880 save % in two appearances (78 minutes), while Tate Metcalf has put together a 5.31 GAA and .797 save % in three games (158 minutes). … Lappi owns a team-high 99 saves, followed by Metcalf with 69 and Patrick with 25.
