TOMAH, Wis. — The Wisconsin Woodsmen came out firing in its NA3HL showdown against
league-leading St. Louis Friday night, outshooting the visiting Jr. Blues 11-9 in the game’s
opening 20 minutes, and taking a 2-2 deadlock into the first-period intermission.
Unfortunately, despite holding a 15-9 edge in shots on goal over the middle frame, the
Woodsmen offense came up firing blanks, as the Jr. Blues scored five unanswered goals — two
in the second period and three more in the third — in dealing Wisconsin a 7-2 setback at the
Tomah Ice Center.
The Woodsmen and Jr. Blues swapped first-period goals, with St. Louis scoring first on a goal by
Mitchell Nappier 2:27 into the first period. Wisconsin’s Ethan Foiles answered with his second
of the year three minutes later to knot the game at 1-1. The Jr. Blues regained the advantage, 2-
1, on a goal by Nicholas Moergan at 14:32, only to have Nolan Mix get the Woodsmen back to
even with his fifth of the year less than two minutes later.
From there, however, it was all St. Louis, as the Jr. Blues’ Chase Kozma and Joseph Lopiccolo
found the back of the net in the second period and Jace Jordan, Jack Reuss, and Lopiccolo
added third-period tallies to seal St. Louis’s third straight win over the Woodsmen this season.
Lleyton Jaschke finished with 18 saves in goal for the Woodsmen, while teammate Logan
Blahnik stopped two of the three shots he faced in relief. Travis Visvadra kicked out 29 of
Wisconsin’s 31 shots on goal between the pipes for the Jr. Blues.
Wisconsin (2-8-1-0) gets another crack at the Jr. Blues on Saturday, as the two teams return to
the Tomah Ice Center for the second game of their two-game weekend series. Puck drop is
slated for 7:15 p.m.
